Make-up Application- foundation part2

3 Nov

hey girlies!!

hope you found the last post helpful. ๐Ÿ™‚ this is part 2! i will concentrate on foundation applicators and how to use them. there’s soo much to say, i’ve tried to include all the things i can remember and i think ud find the most helpful.

remember you can always mix your foundations as mentioned in my earlier post Foundation Tips and Tricks. did you know, you can make your own tinted moisturiser by mixing your foundation with a moisturiser. if you’re using a tinted moisturiser you don’t need to moisturise first either! To get to a more dewy look to your foundation, mix it with Mac strobe cream or a little bit of liquid highlighter. keep in mind, the more you mix in the more sheer your foundation. my t-zone can get quite oily however my cheeks range from normal to dry. so i don’t like to use anything that could make my skin look greasy or dry. if i want a dewy look i like to mix my foundation with Mac fix plus spray instead. it’s not as dewy as the other products i mentioned but it definitely gives your foundation a glow. Fix plus is great for all sorts, i use it to dampen brushes or instead of a primer and is also great to set your foundation but i’ll tell you more about this later! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Make-up Application -foundation part1

1 Nov

hey girliess!!

how are you all?? this is going to be the first of the make-up application posts. but before i begin bare in mind that what i advise is not the only or even the best methodย  and there is no “right” or “wrong” way. As long as YOU like the method u choose and it works best for your skin type/face shape etc that’s what is most important. i would encourage you to try different ways though, experiment! maybe not on a special occasion but try other methods and see what suits you best.

i started writing this and it was so long! so i’ve decided to split it up and this week will be on BASE make-up.

  • PRIME firstly, what do you apply your foundation over? primers help with all sorts, they’re especially good for people that want their foundation to last longer, skin to get less oily or look more dewy and also helps smooth open pores, fine lines etc. i love the Laura Mercier Oil free primer for my skin type (which is combination) but Clinique Beauty flash balm is great for normal/dry skin, Mac Prep and prime spf50 is also great or Mac Strobe cream can work as a primer too and for a budget-buy the Gosh velvet touch primer is supposed to be really good. you don’t have to use a primer though, a good moisturiser is often enough. allow the moisturiser to sink into the skin a while before applying your foundation. remember to use moisturisers and foundation that suit your skin type. oily skins will usually prefer a matte/oil free formula while dryer skins prefer dewy formulas. remember to always apply sun protection whatever your skin type. whether it’s in your moisturiser, primer, foundation or a separate product. try not to layer too many products if you have oily skin though.
  • COVERAGE. if your skin is naturally quite clear and even it’s best you go for a sheer coverage foundation or a tinted moisturiser and use a concealer to cover any imperfections. you can also add a second layer of foundation just over any areas that need more coverage. this is what i personally prefer for every day foundation. it doesn’t look like you’re wearing foundation which is usually the look we want to go for and its nice to be able to see your skins natural texture. medium coverage foundation is usually buildable and you can adapt it according to your preference, i like to use this type for occasional wear. sometimes, when my tinted moisturiser is not enough coverage but i still want a very natural look i apply a thin layer of medium coverage foundation instead. finally there is full coverage. this will make ur skin look flawless and is good for photography or weddings. however it is probably the most difficult to apply without it looking cakey or like you’ve plastered it on! many make-up artists prefer to use full coverage foundation on clients, they just adjust the amount they apply according to the clients skin. remember the purpose of foundation is to even skin tone not mask your face. unless you have very bad pigmentation, scarring etc it always looks better when your natural skin tone and texture can be seen through your foundation.
  • TEXTURE. the most popular foundations usually come in liquid, cream, powder, mineral, solid/pan etc. Liquid foundation suits most skin types and can be found in a range of coverage. mineral foundation is also becoming more and more popular now and again has buildable coverage.

i will concentrate on how to apply liquid foundation in my next blog post as it’s the most common and i’ll be here forever if i try to explain them all! lol! if you have any questions or advice please do comment below and i’ll try my best to either reply to you personally or include it in a blog post!

hope you find this helpful girls!

see you soon..

RECOMMENDED-My Top 5 beauty items of the moment!

24 Oct

Hey girlies!!

How are you all?? i’ve been feeling a bit blah recently and one thing that always makes me feel better is make-up! lol wow that sounds shallow!? but honestly when nothing else is doing the trick (not even the chocolate) make-up makes me feel better. i think make up can make any girl feel a million dollars and it can be so much fun! ๐Ÿ˜€ don’t be scared of it, if something goes wrong just wipe it off and try again!

here are my top 5 fave products of the moment:-

  1. ย Shu Umera eyelash curlers – most of you will have heard of them. they’re pretty expensive but i’ve had mine for years and they still work just as well as the day i bought them. they make your eyelashes look longer and your eyes look more wide awake. i use them even when im not wearing make up. would definately recommend you invest in them! i even think its great for guys! they’re my best beauty buy!
  2. Body Shop Lip Butter – if you know me you’ll know my obsession with lip stuff! at any given moment i will have at least 6 different lip products in my handbag! be it lipstick, lip gloss or lip balm! i have a huge range of lip balms but the one i couldn’t live without is the Body Shop lip butter. my lips get super dry especially with the strange weather we’ve been having. i like to slather it on before i sleep or use it to remove dry skin by rubbing it with a cotton bud or after ive exfoliated my lips using it to soothe and moisturise them and even when they’re feeling chapped. i love how it melts on your lips and doesn’t feel too waxy or too sticky. and the best thing is it tastes yummy! ๐Ÿ˜€
  3. Sleek Contour kit – this literally changed the way i do my make-up. i learnt ahow to sculpt and contour on my beauty course but i never used the method on myself. I had always highlighted but never contoured. i thought it was just for occasions and probably because the colours i had werent the most natural or flattering for my skin tone. and as i’m naturally have tanned colour skin, i don’t want to lookย  bronzed on a daily basis, unless its summer or i’m on holiday! but the contour kit doesn’t make it look as though im any darker, it just puts shadows where i want them. the colour blends so well and on those days when im feeling fat faced and needing an extra boost its fabulous! it literally erases double chins and gives you that sucked in cheeks look that makes your cheekbones pop! and best of all its affordable! (if you’d like me to do a post on contouring and highlighting let me know)
  4. Sleek Eyeshadow palette – my favourite is ‘avoir le peche’ – we all know sleek palettes are pretty amazing (minus the fallout!) but this palette is my fave! i bought it quite a few months back and i don’t know if it’s still available anywhere. they have some fab ones out at the moment and the shades are all available in different palettes! i love the ash brown for my eyebrows. i never used to fill my eyebrows as ive always naturally had pretty full brows. but this eyeshadow fills them without altering the colour. it looks really natural and ever since ive been using it, i’ve had so many compliments on my eyebrows! i also love all the orange/peach/pink/coral tones in it. they got used loads in spring/summer and i even used them on my cheeks as blusher!
  5. Mac 266 brush – it was the first Mac brush i ever bought (a long time ago) and it was a great investment! ive used it nearly every time i’ve done my eyeliner.ย  i used to be rubbish at doing eyeliner but with this brush it feels like it does most the work for you! however, if you like a very thin line then this isn’t the brush for you. Having good quality make-up brushes is more important than having good quality make-up. with make-up even cheaper brands do great quality products in lots of colours and textures. but if the brush isn’t right you’re not going to get the finish you’re going for.ย  they don’t have to be mac or even that expensive. i got some great quality brushes recently from Costco! they’re not as good as Mac obviously but they’re still fab, they’re by a brand called Borghese and suuper cheap. Sigma also do great make-up bushes, nearly as good as Mac but less expensive so if you’re looking to invest and don’t want to spend as much, id definately go for sigma. just google them for stockists.

hope that helps you girls! ๐Ÿ™‚ let me know if there’s anything you’d recommend for me??

take care..

foundation tips & tricks!! ;)

21 Sep

hey girlies!!

one of my lovely friends was asking me for some advice on foundation colours today and so i thought you girls may be interested too!

so a lot of us will have foundations we never use at the bottom of our draw! A lot of the time, we’ve also spent too much money on it only to realise later that it’s the wrong shade! rather than disregarding the foundation i have some great tips which uses up that foundation and also makes ur skin look great!

if the extra foundation is too light for your skin tone use it as a highlighter. using the same applicator you use for your normal foundation, apply the lighter foundation on the centre of your nose, across ur cheek bone and above ur cupids bow (middle of ur upper lip). then apply ur usual foundation to the rest of your face and neck and blend it all well!

if the foundation is too dark then u can use it as a contour. in the hollows of your cheeks, below ur bottom lip, at the sides of ur nose, on ur temples and below ur jaw line. this will instantly make all ur features pop! again don’t forget to blend well.

its usually easier to use a brush for precise application but if your going for a very natural look then blend with you fingers after! it may take a couple of tries to get it looking exactly how you want but trust me, its worth it. this look gives a much more natural finish than when you load up the layers with contour and highlight. it can give you a ‘glow from within‘ look if done properly!

another trick you can try is to buy a cheaper foundation in a colour that is very light or very dark, accordingly. blend a bit of that with the foundation that’s the wrong shade, this will help you determine the perfect shade for you. try to make sure the consistency of both foundations is similar. for example a water-based and an oil-based foundation wont mix well!

if you are looking to invest in a high-end foundation, then please please don’t buy it in a rush or as soon as you try it! i’ve done that too many times and have learnt my lesson! most companys will give you a sample of the foundation for free. ask them and try it at home, look at urself in different lights and take pics of yourself too! the ladies at these counters are usually very knowledgable but that does not mean that they’re always right! if you don’t like something explain why and speak up! you know your skin better than anyone. they’re usually lovely people so don’t be scared! if they don’t give samples but will try it on ur face then go to that store first when you go shopping. then go to the different shops and look at yourself in the mirror in different lights. especially in the daylight- it’s the most unforgiving!

if the foundation you are looking to buy is off the shelf then try a few different shades on your jaw line, the one that dissappears the most is your closest match.

if you mess up and realise the foundation you have bought is the wrong colour try to give it back, most shops have a great returns policy and there’s no harm in trying!

always remember with foundation, a little goes a long way. you want to see skin when you look at a person not foundation. blend blend and blend some more! if there are any imperfections you want to hide, use a concealer after you’ve done your foundation and powder to set.

finally, unless your neck is going to be covered, always blend your foundation down your neck, the whole missmatching skin tones thing is soo not in right now!

as always.. if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask! i love it! ๐Ÿ™‚
